The
History of Haedong Kumdo
The
founder of Haedong Kumdo is the God Master Sul-Bong, who originated
Haedong Kumdo at Mt. Backdo (back-doo) and also initiated the academy
to accomplish and to follow the beliefs of Buddhiam-Orientalism. Those
ancient warriors called themselves SAMURANG and forced themselves to
achieve patriotism, filial piety, royalty, justice, knowledge and health.
According
to Korean history, there were three dynasties: Kokuryu, Paekjae, and
Shilla. Each dynasty had their own system of cultivating men of talent--especially
warriors that were to become leaders. The most powerful dynasty among
the three was Kokuryu because of the SAMURANG. Haedong Kumdo comes from
the SAMURANG, Kokuryu's own martial arts.
Some
of these SAMURANG went to Japan where they became to be known as SAMURAI.
Presently,
the president of the United World Haedong Kumdo Federation is Master Kim.
He is actively spreading the art of Haedong Kumdo throughout the world.
There are now over 300 Haedong Kumdo Academies all over Korea and is
being established in over 30 countries worldwide. It is becoming one
of the fastest growing martial arts in world today.
